OT-mig welder question

X2 on the Hobart 140 from Tractor Supply. I love mine. The main thing I have found out about on these 120V machines is the supply circuit must be capable of 30 amps. I put in an outlet with larger wire and larger circuit breaker and it made a huge difference in how it welds. I got an extension cord that they sell for hooking up a Motor home. It's real heavy wire. I can use the welder all over the shop with it.

I started with a Harbor Freight 120v 90amp mig gas + flux cause at $199 in 2001 it was a cheap start.. and good for bigger metal, not so good for body, 4 heat settings..
that worked until 4 yrs ago.. doesn't trigger anymore. still have to look at it.
I also bought a HF mini TIG inverter system.. harder to use than expected, but I did use it to do some of the headers.
along the way, I got a bonus at work and bought a Miller 175 240v MIG,
man what joy to use.. variable power SO much better than the HF.. wow.
at the same time I bought a used Miller 180 syncrowave Tig machine, pedal control.. SO much easier.. still learning
and then we moved to the country, and I needed to weld on my gate, but don't have 220/240 power out there.. so I bought a Lincoln 140 120v unit of CL cheap at $300 new in the box. it also has GAS support, but haven't hooked it up yet. only really used for welding at the gate.
My son works in a metal door factory up in Dallas, they have a ton of equipment.. last summer they were getting rid of some non-working stuff, so I picked up a millermatic 200 mig machine, 200 amp... heavier than the 180 tig machine. no torch. found a used torch on ebay for $30, and the problem turn out to be a burned wire inside. must have a 20lb spool of 035 wire too. (least a foot across and 4 inches thick)
we used it to weld the base plates for the metal building we put together in January.
I use the 175 the most by far.
so, variable speed, variable heat, support for shielding Gas, highest power u can afford, and think about where u might want to use it..
I would have to buy a generator for anything other than at my gate, and using 220 makes it hard to take over to a buddies house for that quick fix you can do...

Sam you must have alot more storage space than me! as AXracer said, I found out that it in fact is supposed to have weld amperage even without pulling the trigger..its better than nothing but it would be nice to upgrade.
and oh btw SAM..! I was looking at some pic you posted, it showed your equalizer bar for the engine hoist. I have had one like yours forever and never really knew what it was...I know stupid huh? well it was left behind a storage unit leaning against a dumpster, of course I had to pick it up..
I've had it 10 plus years laying in the corner, saw your picture and MAN is it ever helpful! Thanks Sam! It's another one of those"i will get to it eventually" stories...

yeh, the engine leveler is amazingly handy. you can tilt the engine/tranny combo, then straighten it out as needed. and balance it flat. I think I bought it at HF for $10.
