y block timing chain
I have installed my timing chain. I am rebuilding a 292. I have 12 pin links between the marks. I have the cover on and damper in but I cannot remember if I put the 12 pins apart with the cam on top or on the bottom. All the pictures I see show the crank on the top when putting this on instead of the cam. Would this make a diff? Would this be be 180 degrees off? If so, what does this mean?

Garbz is right.
Here is a link to a page on John Mummerts Y block site.

There are quite a few common mistakes made because most of us are used to windsors.
John is a great dude and very knowledgable. He helped me a great deal with my 292 rebuild.
Since you are in the middle of a build it may help you too.
With all the knowledge on this site and John you will be in good hands.
Enjoy
