89 f150 bogs down?

Interesting thought when I bought the truck the timing was off a little but the guy who I bought it from said he straightened it out. Could that actually make the truck run bad instantly though cuz there was no gradual decline in power it just pretty much changed instantly.
On another note advanced auto said sounds like the exhaust is plugged if the headers glew red so its only got the headers on it right now and I'm replacing the O2 sensor right now.

well my friend got his grandpas truck back and they said the timing was off. which i dont understand, how does the timing being off make the truck run like crap but when you plug the scanner in it runs good. also when it warms up it runs like crap aslo. i dont know i will tell my friend to watch the truck and see if it runs good.
