I am looking for a new Ranger, and was wondering if it would be possible to swap the dash, seats, etc from my 86 to a newer style like the early 90's. I don't realy care for the interior of the 90's, and mine is in excellent condition. Is this possible? Minor 'adjustment' is fine, I just don't want large gaps if the newer cab is wider, or vice versa.
Unless you are a mechanical engineer and have a mass of equipment at your disposal it's pretty much impossible. Nothing will line up, and all of the electrical will have to be changed.
1) Your '86 probably has some wood trim on the dash, right? Order a wood trim kit for the newer model.
2) The late 80's- early 90's Rangers definitely had "plusher" interiors: Nicer seats, velour instead of the "burlap" they use now. Take out the seats from the new one, have some padding added and have them re-upholstered in the velour from your truck. Even if they can't match it exact, you can get fabric that's real close.
3) Get a re-carpet kit from JC Whitney that's the real plush style carpet from the 80's. The new stuff is barely more than felt.
Am I on the right track here? I mean, are these the things that you like from your '86? Or is it something else?
