Very informative post! Maybe my problem was that I didn't have enough propane which is why it was freezing up. But I wasn't a out to put any more in there as my head pressures were way high for a low ambient temp last night. No telling what on a hot day. It was just an experiment
Unless you are diagnosing a problem other the a recharge then don't worry about the high side. You can get by without it. You can tell most anything you need about the high side by looking at your low side pressure on these trucks.
I put a 12v fan on my condensor on my 89 using r 134 and it works really well. Will freeze me out and that's hard to do! Maybe I will try that on my 97 (:
to run more air flow across the condenser if you end up running 134a use this fan infornt of the condenser that is what i did to mine just to lower the head pressure assoicated with 134a ... becasue the system was designed for r 12 lol
also make sure u have addiquit air flow across the evap as well not enough air flow across the evap will make it freeze like a block of ice lol
It is pretty easy to clean these evaporator cores on these trucks but you need to have gauges and a vacuum pump at the least to do the job. they do get plugged up with carpet lint and dirt which turns to mud with the ac on
