Door question

Hey guys I am new to the site and just picked up a 1949 F6. Most of the truck is good but the bottom of the doors are mostly gone. Is their a place that sells replacement door bottoms and what year doors will fit this truck.

Thanks Mickey

Hi Mickey!
Welcome to the forum, and congratulation on your 'new' truck. There is no place that I know of that sells complete door bottoms. You may be able to find a piece for the outer skin, but for the bottom of the shell, not so much. You'll have to make your own. The doors will interchange from 1948-52, so you may be better off looking for better ones, depending on where you live, or how bad your rust problem is.

There are door kits for 53 to 56, including skins and bottom buckets but I haven't seen them for 49 to 52.

http://www.oldcarcentre.com/FordPickup1948-56.pdf

It's a huge catalogue so give it time to load.

DOOR PATCH

I wonder if you could use a 53 repair kit on the older door. Maybe with a little mod. it might work. I got a 51 and a 53 in the yard. I'll check this out tomor.

That's a good thought. Surely it would be easier to use one of those than totally start from scratch with a straight piece of metal. I'll be interested in hearing how well that could possibly work and how much modification is needed.

An FTE member by the user name of "reamer" was making lower bottom sections for 48-52 doors, but we haven't heard from him in a long time.

Any 48-52 F1-F8 and Panel truck doors will fit your truck. Stay away from COE doors. They're different.

I have a set of doors that were robbed for majority of the parts. However, one door is rusted through at bottom corner. Probably not helpful to you. The other door is still decent, but also has its rust issues.

Thanks guys for the info I may try the 53 door bottom. I have a buddy that is a pretty good fabricator and if it's close I think we can do it.

If your fabber friend has access to an English Wheel, it will be an easy fab for the outer skin, The lower door pan would need to be welded from pieces, using the old pan as a pattern.

Good luck.
