can anyone help me i have a 85 f150 it starts up just fine but when i turn the headlights or radio and blower motor for the heater on truck dies on me if i dont use any of the accessories it runs fine i have changed the starter solenoid, coil, battery and cables but if i unplug the neutral safety switch wire from the starter solenoid relay mounted on the fenderafter the truck is started i can use the Accessories but i have to make sure i plug it back in to start the truck back up then unplug it again so i can use everything again
That LB/R wire comes from the ignition switch and just passes thru the NSS - it's what causes the starter relay to engage the starter. I can't imagine how that could kill the engine.
If you start the truck, unplug the wire, turn on the headlights, THEN plug the wire back on, does the engine die? If so, do it again but put a multimeter set to amperage between the wire & the relay terminal to see how much current it's pulling to kill the engine. ...and notice whether or not the relay clicks.
I have had this same problem with my 1985 F-350. It turned out I had a bad ground. I have heard stories about the inner fender panels not making a ground after awhile. When my local mechanic changed the ground location, everything worked fine. All accesories and lamps on w/o stalling!
I can see where a grounding problem could possibly cause this. It doesn't sound like anything is shorted because you haven't said anything about sparks or blown fuses. If the headlights or another circuit, was finding it's return path through part of the ignition module or coil, the ignition ground instead of being 0 volts, could rise up in voltage a little. If you have 6 volts on an improperly grounded piece of metal, then 12v-6v would be 6volts left to run the ignition, which would probably kill it.
