I have a 71 F100 with a 240 I6. I just pulled it and tore it down. My cam is WORN. Does anybody have any recommendations on a good cam? I am just looking to keep the engine close to spec but a little more power wouldn't hurt!
I have a 300 6 that I built 30 years ago. I put a comp cam 260 high energy in it, and it's always been impressive with it's low end torque. It will idle in 3rd gear and accelerate pretty smoothly under that load. It was my daily driver for years and now I've turned it into a platform buggy, but it will still fire up right now and go. I love that old motor! I always say they have to be the prototype for the cummins 6 cylinder.
A couple of other comments since you have it down:my motor is actually a 240 block but I put a 300 crank rods and pistons in it, the blocks are the same. Make sure when you put it back together that you put a speedy sleeve on the rear main seal surface; even after all this time mine still doesn't leak. Also these motors really like to have the exhaust manifold split. You can get a set of manifolds off a later model fuel injected 300, usually in abundant supply in any junkyard. It really lets the motor breathe much better than the old 6 into 1 deal.
