Right. You need to measure the resistance of the wires. Find two that are comparable in length, and measure their resistance with a good multimeter. If they are close in length and resistance(you're assuming they're both good), you can take the resistance measurement, divide it by the length of the wire, and use that as a base line for checking your other wires.(ex:20K ohms/ 56"= 357 ohm's per inch).
