.. ok i start my truck its ok...idles fine and all. when i got to take off it just doesnt want to move..i have to keep feathering the clutch and gas to keep it from stalling..then i get started and hit second gear i cant really hit the gas because it will stall..so i have to give it gas slowly...same through all the gears. especially 4th/OD. but when i get higher rpms it better....is this the timing or is my mixture wrong,,i tried messing with the mix screw but nothing....82 f100 i6 3 speed wOD
Check your ignition timing according to the procedure on the emissions sticker (the one with the vacuum map) and get a Haynes manual to find out how to check your valve timing.
Pull the air filter so you can look into the carb and open the choke by hand and work the throttle and see if there is a spray of gas into the throat of the carb when you do. It sounds like the accelerator pump on the new carb isn't working and you aren't getting the correct squirt of gas when you mash the gas.
Ok, if it is a new carb, return it as defective. If you can't, well now is as good of a time to learn how to rebuild a carb. If I remember it is a single barrel and not too hard to do. Usually there is a linkage on the outside of the carb that works the accelerator pump. One end of the linkage is connected to the main throttle shaft and the other end is connected to some kind of pump actuator. Don't confuse the choke linkage for the pump linkage. See if you can work the pump linkage by hand and see if it sprays inside the carb. On some carbs this linkage has several holes on the throttle end so the pump stroke can be adjusted. Have you checked your fuel pressure??? you might have a bad pump or clogged fuel filter.
OK, I read your post and not to be funny, but it looks like you caused the problem. Work backwards and think of all the things you did, look at them and see if something is wrong or out of place. If you made any adjustments , look at what you did and run through them in your mind and see if they are by the book or just a guess. I am a service tech and on occasion I do the same thing. Like it worked OK before I fixed it and Now it don't work worth a damn. Go over what you have done and 90% of the time it is something you have done the other 10% are due to defective parts.
just an update, i took all the smog stuff off my truck now it runs great! did the egr , plugged all the hoses and all.. now when i hit the gas itll lay rubber !! i love it!! now all i gota do is do a spring swap for f150 springs so i can get my truck to set better and itll be great!
