Back fires threw intake

05 5.4 back fires only when cold when first taking off from stop sign. It will do it when coasting then get back on the gas but not often, already did the plugs. Anybody have any ideas what this could be?

All the experience I've ever had with back firing through the intake is from lifters sticking, but this was in the old days. But the cause is that the valves aren't closing completly or at the correct time. I would suspect your VCT solonoids. Do a search on here about them. They get sludged up, and don't keep your cams in time.
