Is the lightning overated?
To answer your Q about a car......a first-gen S2000 puts out yes-only 153lb-ft of torque on 2-liters. The redesigned 2.2-liter is 167 or something like that. Each at 240 ponies. (by the way, the aforementioned rotary in the RX8 is comparable to approx FIVE liters of displacement of common combustion engines.)
To say that RPMs out of a lower-torqued engines "don't move a car" is ludicrous. What the heck do you think the ratio is in horsepower/torque on an Indy car? Is your mustang stock? Let's race in the mountains, k?

Your latter Diesel example?!
Duh.......that is to get TONS of weight MOVING.i.e. torque.
Don't forget the S2000 is FAR lighter than any stripped-Stang could dream of being. I promise anyone that it FAR outhandles one in the twisties as well.
Yes, there's teensey torque in it, but jeesh.....your point is near-silly. (Too bad I can't have the torque in it like you enjoy though, I know! Guess you can't have it all, always, eh?
)As to other's comments about the Lightning being Expensive? Well yes $35k is alot of money.....but for performance? ATLEAST that much is to be expected. Heck, it's not much more than the Lariat I ALMOST ordered, and about the same difference from my S2000. It seems to me.....and I have yet to experience it....that I'll nearly have the excitement of my S2000 intermixed with some truck advantages of a Lariat (I only tow jetskis and haul pretty light stuff, so it'd work), If I choose to buy a Lightning!
[doing the math>>> $33k Roadster+$30k Lariat=$37k Lightning?! hmmm, sounds like a good deal to me!
]I'd better be careful, or I'll talk myself into NEEDING one for sure!
Too bad ya can't get 'em in a retractable top!
Yeah, since ya can't.........The original thread poster was right: they're WAY overrated!!!

Kidding! (kinda like idiots comparing the truck to a Vette !!!)*handslap to forehead*
