Hey ya'll I'm new here and any help would be appreciated. I have a 2001 F150 4X4 super crew with the 5.4 V8 and towing package. I'm looking to buy a travel trailer at either 5500 or 6000lbs dry, depending on how much my truck will tow. I race dirt bikes and have to put the two bikes in the truck(about 500 lbs including the tools). Can my truck handle this tow or not? Thanks.
If you look at the right side of the page you'll see a link to "SPECS". Take a look there and you'll find towing and carrying capacity specs for your truck.
You can check the GVWR, but if you have a 4R70W transmission you'll likely need to rebuild it about every 30,000 miles pulling that much load.
There's some good info about the problems associated with the 5.4L S-Crew and the 4R70W combination. The 4R70W was never designed to handle that much of a load. You could install an additional transmission cooler and temp gauge to monitor the fluid. But, your biggest hurdle is overcoming the inherent design of the transmission and how the torque converter repeatedly unlocks and locks under the slightest load.
