Does putting a tuner or chip on a 6.0L cause problems? What is highly recommended? I would like on the fly adjustment. I wouldnt like to cause anymore problems than i already have on this wonderful engine. I do haul trailers occasionally. I use my truck so as a daily driver and would like better gas economy.
Do NOT use an on-the-fly adjusted tuner on a non-modified 6.0. I wouldn't use one, period! Most here use tuners that are able to be programed...... even then, be VERY cautious in it's use if you haven't installed studs for your heads.
02 x was tuned for the last of it's 30,000 miles before trade in
03 x was tuned for MOST of it's like before trade in
05 x has been tuned since about 10k miles and now has 135k and growing
because, the best way to put it is it the signal from the pcm runs into a box, the box then reconfigures the signal and sends it out. sometimes it messes up the signals and thats why trannies are getting messed up and thats why they mess up so much.
I'd rather this explanation: An on-the-fly-tuner ONLY adjusts the fuel flow - the programed tuners adjust all the engine parameters for increasing power thereby NOT stressing the other components, like the tranny.
Something else to keep in mind. In comparison with its International twin, the VT365, our 6.0s were already hot-rodded from the factory. If my memory serves, the most horsepower available in a 6.0 powered International truck was 275. Ford decided it needed an extra 50 h.p. to compete in the diesel pick up market.
Same engine, same heads, just about the same everything with an extra 50.h.p. You're already 18% over any International application. How much farther do you want to push it?
