Carb/intake suggestions?

Hello

I am putting a 302 from a 91 mustang into an 83 F100. I'm taking the fuel injection off and going carburated.

Anyone have any suggestions on a good intake/carb selection?

Thanks,
CR

Truck's are generally used in lower rpm's. In this case you will need a duel plane intake. They work better at lower rpm's. There are a lot of company's that make them. I would go for price. Weiand #WND8011 is a good choice. As for a carb, go small. A <a href="http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/">Holley</a> 600cfm #1850 or possibly the Edelbrock 650cfm #EDL1805

Thanks for the reply.

I've been looking at the Edelbrock Performer, and the Proformer RPM.

For carburation I was thinking about the 600cfm elec choke Edelbrock.

The truck has a 4 speed granny low, does this matter when making intake selection.

I figured that with the standard tranny that I would likely be in a higher rpm band more of the time.
The rear end is a 3.42. I dont know what gearing the tranny has, just that 1 gear is useless unless you are pulling a load from dead still on a hill. Is has a 300 6cyl right now.

I'm not very experienced with this kind of thing.

Can you describe how the two intakes would affect the way the truck runs and drives? Pros, cons etc

Thanks a mil,
CR

The performer intake work's from just off idle to about 5,000 rpm, where as the performer rpm work's from 1500- 6500 rpm. For your truck the best choice ( in my opinion) would be the performer. The Edelbrock 600 is also a good choice.

Carb/intake suggestions?

I'm just about ready to add intake/carb to my 71 F250 4X4 (360; manual trans w/granny). I need to pull the stock intake to fix a nasty oil leak, so I thought I'd add the intake and 4 bl for a bit more performance. I was thinking the Edelbrock Performer RPM with a <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">Holley</a> 700 or 750 with vac secondaries?? The motor is rebuilt (by other owner) with an RV cam and headers. After reading this thread, perhaps I should change to the Performer with a smaller carb? Any sugesstions for my current setup.

Thanks

I can only offer one suggestion.
From experiences that close friends have had with <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">Holley</a> carbs, I would buy an Edelbrock. JMO
For the street, I hear great things about Edelbrocks, and bad things about <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">Holley</a>s. Although, I hear a <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">Holley</a> would be best for a race setup.
Like I said, this is just my opinion from what I've seen and heard, not personal experience.

That's pretty much the extent of my skills with carbs and intakes. LoL, Im a <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">fuel injection</a> guy.

The performer intake is a good choice for your application, because it work's best at lower rpm's. With the RV camshaft your power band come's on strong at lower rpm's. The 360FE engine work's it's best also at that lower range due to it's long stroke. However I believe the <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">Holley</a> carb would work best due to it's abilty to allow more air at lower rpm. The biggest problem that most people have with <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">Holley</a>'s is picking to large a CFM rating. The easy way to pick the right one is this simple formula.

CU.IN X MAX RPM
------------------------- X .75
2356

This formula is for street use with little or no modification's

Example 360 x 4500
--------------- equal's 688 cfm x .75 equal's 516 cfm
2356
With your modification's multiply by .90 giving a final rating of 619 cfm. Go to the next size up bringing you to a 650 cfm.
