ha well i suppose he is right, in a sense, but the dirt kills AND it completely changes the oils composition. sure, some oil is still there, but dilluted iwth what . . . unburnt gasoline, which is a solvent? LOL. . . . . . .

ive seen plenty of vehicles (owned one myself when i was younger) that basically never get oil changes (sure ya know all bout this). . .but they burn so much that its pointless to change it. just add ****ty oil and call it good. and at that point, its not worth spendin money on a filter cuz the blowby is so bad, who cares if its filtered. . .

I always used to use Mobil 1 5W-30 until the SL oils came out. When they removed the extreme pressure lubricants from the oil, I replaced my Mobil 1 with Rotella 5W-40 Synthetic (currently CJ-4 classification). I always use a Motorcraft, Wix, or AC Delco filter.

It is not the oil that breaks down. It is the additives, modifiers and detergents that break down. Also as another said it collects fuel over time and eventually all theses factors will displace(lack of a better term) the oil and friction and wear will increase until bearing failure.

As far as Oil I use Valvoline Full Synthetic or Valvoline High mileage synthetic blend depending on the vehicle.

Mobil clean 5000, they changed the name to something else now but its the same stuff. Cant go wrong when I maintained a fleet of work trucks that rarely saw changes and they ran great with this stuff.

I use Mobile 1 synthetic and Napa gold filters in the F250.. In everything else I use conventional Valvoline with the Napa filters..

I used to use Fram filters as well until I saw the light so to speak... They tend to look good but really do suck,,,Last yearI decided to cut a Napa filter and a Fram apart and was simply amazed.....WOW... what a difference in quality.. The Fram that I cut had a 1/2" gap that wasn't sealed kinda like one of the video's online.. might as well have no filter if thats the case..

The most important thing

The key ultimately is change the oil and filter frequently with quality materials. You can't go wrong that way. While we all have our philosophies on what is better and why, doing the maintenance is key, and anyone who does while using decent materials will see 200,000 miles or more no sweat.

What a complete fool that guy is about "NOT CHANGING THE FILTER"! I have cut several filters open, regardless of brand and the trash that is caught in there is enough proof for me to change the filter, even on newer vehicles....I sure hope he doesn't have kids and teach them the same thing...Nothing more to be ashamed of than a parent that is an EPIC FAIL!

*shakes head****.......

That was more a rant and more of a waste of my time..He'll never see this or KNOW any better!

Back to topic...I use Mystic 15w-50 Synthetic Blend and Supertech filter. I added a remote filter kit and the filter sits straight down for easy access. On other people's rides, I use Motorcraft FL-1A's when attached directly to the block. I used to use the same filter for my '04 Dodge Hemi. Had the same threads and was a few bucks cheaper than Mopars filter.

Does a 300 six even care if its oil gets changed. LOL They just run forever even if you treat them like a red headed stepchild.

Since I bought my 96 F150 4.9L back in 96 I have been using Mobile 1, usually 10W30-15K mile type and most often one of the K&N oil filters. My 88 Ranger I used Castrol then changed to Mobile 1 and when my dad overhauled it because of a bad lifter he said that otherwise he saw no wear in the engine which had 175,000 miles on it (2.9L V6).

I usually go almost 10,000 miles between changes on the 4.9L with this combination and the oil still looks good even then. Heck even Mercedes lists only changing the oil after 7,500 miles now days when using synthetic. Today's oils really are much better than the stuff I used back 30 years ago when you really did need to change every 3000 miles. There are a lot of trucking companies now going 10,000 miles on changes and those engines are being used much harder than mine is.

I just purchased a case of Mobil 1 Super 5000 5w-30 at O' Reillys for $24 for the case...Motorcraft FL1A filter. That's a good deal...if you have O' Reillys in your town.

Mobil Super, our premium conventional engine oil, offers proven protection to help extend engine life. It also comes with a 5,000-mile protection guarantee.* Designed to help protect against sludge and engine wear, Mobil Super contains more cleaning additives than our basic conventional engine oil to help keep engines clean. And as with all our premium engine oils, you get the Mobil Super Engine Guarantee against oil-related engine failure.

Unique formulation proven to help extend engine life
Proven protection against sludge and engine wear
5,000 miles of protection*
Contains 15 percent more cleaning additives than our basic conventional motor oil to help prevent the formation of sludge and harmful deposits

Believe it or not, regular old Pennzoil for about 150,000 miles and Pennzoil high mileage since then. The truck has 286,000 miles on the original drivetrain. My reason for this, is because when I got it 10 years ago, it had 80,000 on it and I didn't want to switch oils in it. The oil filter is always an FL1A.
