Talking to a buddy

Well a buddy has been looking for a truck for a LONG time. He is wanting and needing a crew cab 4wd. He has shyed away from diesel because it is almost 4 dollars a gallon. He is currently looking for an early to mid 80's chevy 3/4 or one ton crew 4wd with a 350. He wants to convert it to CNG. I have been telling him for YEARS to get an idi. I don't care what kind of idi, just an idi....LOL This guy is more like a brother to me. He uses either my IDI or my D-max if he has to haul his tractor around or haul hay. I never have minded nor will I ever mind if he uses my trucks. That is why I have them for. But he is wanting his own.

He asked me last night why I like my IDI so much. Telling him why, I really reminded myself of why I do like my IDI so much. I told him they are easy to work on. Cheap to work on compared to other diesels. Reliable and dependable. As long as I take care of her she will last my lifetime. They aren't hot rods, but I grew out of that phase years ago.

He was looking at an 07 F250 with the 6.0 I informed him that those were JUNK! And asked him why he had diverted to looking at that compared to the old chevys. He told me it was cheap. I said there was a reason it was so cheap. Idk guys, I sure would like to see him get an IDI. But he makes a good point at 4 bux a gallon. He doesnt drive his own truck that much. Maybe 100 miles a month. But still. He is frugal and watches what he spends. He is an educated and professional bean counter. So that will help u understand him more...LMAO!! Anyway, just had to tell you guys that I sure do try to sell these IDIs. I think they are the cats meow when it comes to diesel trucks.

@ just 100 miles per month,it's not going to matter if he drives a diesel or a gas job one way or the other.
id be more tempted to just rent or borrow a truck if that's all i used a truck for.
so you can tell him there are more $ saving people out there than him.
you can also tell him, that a 350 gas job or a 460 BB truck.......whatever,gets around 10 mpg average.while the idi reports around here seems to be a fair middle ground of 16/17 mpg.
but like i say,100 miles per month.it simply doesn't matter one way or the other.
i drive that in one day sometimes.sometimes more.

if he's actually wise with $ like you say.it would really be best if he just kept borrowing your truck.a fair trade to pay for it's use, would be to just have him bring her back with a full tank of fuel (or just fuel it up once a month if he uses a few times throughout.)
you'd both save $ really.

I see NO problem with that. I have left my IDI and my D-Max parked at his house. He does use them. I see now problem with it. This winter he is going to have my D-Max if he doesnt have a truck. They got snowed in last snowstorm we had. He always drives his G-car or his wifes car when driving the family around. You make great points for sure F250, thx.

I have not replaced one thing on my IDI due to failure. I have spent some cash on things that were not 100% new but that is because I am paranoid and I am driving across the country in my IDI. I want everything to be perfect. I could probably get away with what I bought it with minus $100 for the wrong coolant being installed and new hoses. $2900 after taxes and I have a rock solid truck that will out pull any Jap wagon you can buy.

My idi has 330,000 on it. If they have a mileage thread on this engine just show him that, and the cost of diesel engine consumables with the idi vs other stuff.

Well he is so hard headed. He is going to buy himself a truck. I just don't know what. LOL I visited with him again. He does not want to rely on my trucks because he knows I use them for work. He also never has liked borrowing. I am just going to let him do what he feels he needs to do. Just be a good friend and help him pick up the pieces when he needs me too. LMAO I do enjoy my IDI. I haven't had alot of troubles with it. The diff going out this last year was the biggest surprise. The clutch was just usual wear and tear and abuse. LOL That thing will start no matter how long it has sat. It is so dependable. I am NEVER scared to drive my IDI. I have 280 on the clock I think.
