Someone checked/topped up the fluids in my truck and In the process of doing this, sprayed a silver substance over the drain plugs and surrounding area. What exactly is it, and will it prevent me from unscrewing the drain plugs in the future?
I found out from another shop that the mechanics here put spray paint over the drain plugs of any receptacle that they've checked, changed the fluids in, or added fluids to, to prove they did the work and to detect any tampering in case anybody tries to sue them for negligence.
Makes sense. Talked to a neighbor about a week ago He told me he noticed a small drip of oil on his garage floor and later his driveway. Upon further inspection, he found that the shop that did his last oil change, put in the wrong drain plug, probably cross threaded the oil pan threads, now causing a leak.
He filed a complaint, they denied it and he told me "The one time I decided to take my Tahoe in to have the oil changed, these ^&*%$ MFers did this!"
He has one of those oversize drain plugs in it now, pending the outcome of his claim. This was not done at one of the well known national oil change places, but rather a local business that gives you a wide variety of "cut and clip" coupon services that you see in your weekly ad pack that comes in the mail.
