I just purchased a 30' boat and want to buy a 2008 4X4 F250 to tow it with more ease. Boat weighs approximately 8000 pounds. Will the F250 be enough when I want to pull the boat out of the water? I was thinking of the 2008 Ford F350 DuallyCrew Cab to be on the safe side. Is that too much? Ramp conditions are not always the best...and I really don't want to struggle. Any suggestions appreciated.
Hello.
You're actually in the F150 forum, but that's ok.
Some questions for you:
1. Does the 8k lbs include the trailer, gear, fuel on board, etc? Dry weight can quickly change when you begin adding all your toys for a day on the water.
2. An F150, prior to '09 won't handle this load, so you're on the right track with a SuperDuty. Gas or Diesel though?
The F350 CC Dually is probably overkill, but better safe than sorry right? A nicely equipped diesel F350 single wheel 4wd should get your job done safely. A diesel F250 should even be more than capable if you're still under 10-11k lbs.
Hopefully a moderator will come by and move this thread to the SD forum for you. Happy hunting!
yes, I am new and just realized it..so I moved it to the super duty section. Boat weighs 7500 without the trailer or gas. So I am calculating around 9000 pounds total maybe...my biggest concern is pulling the boat out of the water...so I thought 350 4x4 and double tires...but wondering as you suggested if it is too much...thanks for your input though...

Not true. My '07 with the tow package is rated at 9200 lbs. It will easily pull that out of the water. Might have to use low range but it would pull it out.
I have an 06 F150KR, 5.4, 3:73 She's rated to tow 9300lbs. I can tell you from experience I tow a 6000lb Grady White like it was nothing, coming out of a steep ramp I always drop it in low, on the highway I forget it's behind me. IMO, if I were towing the weight you are talking about, I'd move up to a Super duty F250 4x4. I think it's better to have a little more in reserve, JMO. Good luck.
I bought a 2009 F250 lariat 4x4 and I think I made a good choice...now I will need to to see how it works when I tow my boat and when I pull it out of the water....after reading all your comments I am hopeful this will work out for me. Thank you once again.
