Umm, how do I describe this? I am looking at a 99 7.3 powered superduty with 120k miles on it. It was a fleet truck so well maintained but not taken care of extremely well, just dusty and dirty. The section of tube coming out of the turbo at the connection has some oily dampness and dust collected on it. A buddy says the turbo is "pushing oil" and needs to be rebuilt. Kinda new to the powerstroke and searching just overwhelmed me.
The truck is ideal for me so I can deal with some fixes but a bit worried the turbo is going out.
From what your describing, i'd say, its nothing more than the CCV, venting into the air intake, causing the oily film, on sum/all the I.C boots.....normal.
Great link thanks. I spoke to a mechanic at a Ford fleet service place he said they all have that and lifted the hoods on half a dozen supers and they all looked the same with the oily spot. He also mentioned doing the CCV mod. Now I have some reading to do, thanks guys.
Sounds like the crew here has you sorted, but another thing to keep in mind is that even if the turbo does need to be rebuilt, the kit is about $100 and getting the assembly rebalanced is a very good idea and not very expensive either.
