Bilstein shock question

I have a non-lifted 1989 f250 4x4 with a 460. I ordered a set of Bilstein shocks for the front & rear. The rear shocks, even with the strap in place that keeps them compressed, are still about 3 inches too long to fit in the brackets. Is this normal? I have double checked the shock part number at various sources and they appear to be the correct ones. Any thoughts? Can I compress them further and what is the best way?

Thanks,

ERF

Assuming they are the correct ones you should be able to compress them more than the 3in you need. You should be able to compress them by hand.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up using a floor jack to compress them the rest of the way. I couldn't do it by hand. Thanks again,
