Dash display magically changed

Just today the display on my 11 6.7 changed. The gear indication display now appears on the display. I am not talking about the gear indicator you see in the lower right hand corner of the display when you are in manual mode. I mean the one that shows the numbers 1 through 6 on the right side of the display and shows the current gear you are in indicated by a bold number. It is active when the gear selector is in "D".

I think this happened this morning at the same time the dash lighting was changing from it's night time scheme to it's daylight scheme. I have never seen this gear indication before. I really like having it but wonder why it suddenly appeared. I understand folks who had one of the earlier flashes also have this gear indication display.

My truck is 6 months old and only has 2500 miles on it since I only use it to haul the camper and for trips to the lumber yard. My Oasis report shows a build date of 11/10/2010. I have never had a flash done. I have not had any shifting problems and the truck performs perfectly.

Has anyone else seen this.

Tap the up/down +/- switch on the manual gear shift selector and it will turn it on or off.

I like the feature.

If you hit the "+" button on the gearshifter the gear selection will appear. Maybe you hit it by accident?

I don't recall hitting it but I was in la la land at the time. I assume you need to hit +/- while the gear selector is in drive. I love having the feature. Thanks for your comments

And, if after the next time you turn the truck off, with the gear display showing, and then restart it, if the gear display does not re-appear on it's own, then you don't have the 400/800 flash.

There is an old thread on this forum that includes a lot of features that were discovered either by accident, such as yours or as a result of someone actually reading the manual. LOL! I will see if I can resurrect it.

Also you can lock out gears while in D.
Press - to lock out gears starting with 6 then + to add them back.
Moving the column shifter will automatically activate all gears if you have one or more locked out.

I usually lock out 6th in town driving or when I get stuck behind someone doing 30 MPH on a 45 MPH 2-lane road (happens too often around here).

Mine did the same thing! Kind of nice actually. Wasn't aware that I had done anything, but must have. Truck is 1 year old with 12,000 miles. No problems at all. The power and fuel mileage continue to amaze. Traded a 2004 with the 6.0 and there is just no comparison.

The 400/800 is a horsepower/torque flash that FOMOCO offered back in Sept. to upgrade the hp/t to 400/800 from factory setting of 390/735.

Mine's doing the same thing, kinda.... I was having shifting problems, hard out of 1st into 2nd. Found a TSB and had the dealer download the new program. When we got it back the numbers were gone. They didn't notice but I did. All they said to the wife after the upgrade, was drive it like a granny for a couple of weeks to re-train it. Then 2 weeks later the display showed up again. I thought it was part of the program and the learning, but the Dealer didn't know what I was talking about.

Then one day it disappeared and stayed away for 2 months. Started to shift hard again, so I was going to take it in. 2 week wait to get Tech to check it out. They were now aware of others having the same problems with the display. But said everytime one came in with it, it would be working, and they couldn't trouble shoot it. Guess what... wife parked the truck in the AM, no display. Tech goes to get it 2 hrs later and display worked again.... WTF nothing for 2 months and then boom, it's working again. The Tech must tap the button when he goes to shift it. My question is..... Why does it go away?
