hey i live in florida and it was about 90 degrees here today.i have a pyrometer and i mounted the probe pre turbo. i always let it cool down to at least 325 degrees. well to i drove my truck for about 2 hours straight today and i pulled in my drive way to let the engine cool down. it dident seem to want to go below about 365. i let it idle for 5 minutes and it was still at 365.so i just shut it off.is there any way i can get cooler egts? i know its not even summer yet and its gonna be hotter soon and i dont want to wait 10 minutes for it to cool down. is there anything i can do?
You might try a cold air induction system such as the Tymar, or Magnum force AFE air filters. This allows for more cool air to circulate going in. Also replacing the stock muffler with a flow through muffler (several to choose from) will help with the back pressure. Other steps would be to increase the size of the exhaust etc. But you may find that doing just one thing at a time may solve your problem without the cost of doing it all at once. I found that doing just the cold air induction and the flow through muffler reduced mine enough. Later I may install larger exhaust and down pipe, but so far it hasen't been necessary. Hope this helps. Happy trails.
I know running a aftermarket air intake setup, I.E. Tymar,AFE,etc will help lower E.G.T's.
The E.G.T's on my truck were getting pretty high while towing in the chicago summer heat, so i installed an exhaust cutout right after the downpipe, and my E.G.T's lowered bigtime, due to the exhaust getting out faster than having to travel the entire truck length. It is nice becasue i can open it/close it whenever i want with three wingnuts. They also sell an electronic system that opens a butterfly with the flip of a switch , so ou dont have to crawl under the truck....
Joeboost, where would I find this electric butterfly device you're talking about? Do you notice any noise increase with yours open? How many degrees does it drop the EGT's? Thanks for any info.
You can find this electric butterfly thing-e in the back of any Superchevy/Chevy high performance magazine. Just go find a magazine at the store - find the ad , and write doen the number.
While fully open - it is allot louder than when the exhaust is running thru the entire exhaust. I am not sure exactly how much the temps dropped , due to my gauge really not working at the momment..But i do recall seeing a decent drop in temps...
