hey guys
I am pulling the intake on my 77 f150 w/400. It is loose but it is catching on the dist. in the front and this little round thing with a wire that comes out of it in the back. Does this thing come out and if so how? The intake should come out if i pull either one of these. Does the dist have to come out?
Thanks
David
You should pull the distributor to facilitate removing the intake. The "little round thing with a wire coming out of it" is the oil pressure sending unit. This also doubles as an auxilliary oil pressure relief valve (just kidding, it just seems that they start leaking if you even look at them wrong). Anytime I hear someone tell me that they have a leak at the back of the intake or even a rear main leak I suggest they check the o.p. sending unit first. Underneath the round top is a hex fitting which makes it easy to remove/install.
Well thanks for the input guys. Igot the sending unit off earlier but the dist is stuck. It wont even budge. Pray for me on this one.
I will be at work on it again sunday. It is currently soaking in WD-40.
thanks
David
I'm doing a search on removing a stuck distributor and found your thread. I'll go through the other search returns too, but while I'm here did you have any success with the distributor removal?
I'm having a devil of a time getting mine out and tried WD40 and PBlaster , a short pry bar, belt wrench, and tapping the sides with a hammer so far.
I've turned the motor over with a wrench and that doesn't help loosen anything.
No i never got the dist out. It was loose enough that i could turn it to adust the timeing but it just wouldn't come out. I pulled the intake out around it and installed the new one with it in place.
