Are you tuned for the 1's? As long as you aren't running it in a hot tune you should be alright. Just got to keep an eye on the temps...

It might get hot on hills...

Keep it in a tow tune or something small and run it. Watch the temps.

I tried it. I could not use much of the available power at all before I was EGT limited. I have a tow tune that is hardly any different than my stock setting, I could use that one but still had to shift down and take it easy. The IC makes a huge difference, towing before and after will really make you appreciate just how much it helps.

I had that setup for 3 years, but I've only got a Stupidchip, so I never did too bad. Much better with the IC for sure. As long as you've got appropriate gauges, you should be OK. As the others have said, just watch your EGT.

Well, I'll be doing it later this month too. Haven't had enough time to get my I/C installed. That'll be this summer's job.

If I have to, I can yank Tony's toones and fall back to my 1705. Even before my Stage 1's I had to downshift to third to reach for manageable and cooler power on the steeper hills (4.10s), so if I still hafta do that, that's okay too. Worst case is I have to pull over and let her cool down, but I don't see that happening.

with my 96 i had 175s and i towed fine with it as long as i kept the rpms up the egts ran around 1200 on the hills. from my experience these things like to pull in the higher rpms, mine loved to pull anything around 80mph!

Good point Highboy. More RPM makes more boost, which helps control EGT. It took me a while to learn that. These things have a 2 stroke like powerband.

I've had my 2's installed for 2 years/50-60k miles now. Over half the miles have been pulling a 7,300 pound gooseneck empty and up to 16,000 loaded legally.

MagKarl hit it on the head. You wont be able to use all the power available. I can pulling heavy loads (16,000-19,000) with no IC. BUT I would not allow anyone else do the same. I'm flirting with high temps on every hill. On flat land temps are no problem.

I downshift on big hills or any situation where OD is lugging. My EGT guage stopped working Wednesday. Yesterday I hauled a heavy load with no egt guage. At first I was leary, couple hours in i said **** it and I drove it with no care to what the temps may be, just how how I needed to drive it. I made it back and it still runs today...Towing with no IC is doable, but not the best. Don't be scared to use the truck until you have it installed though.

I do okay towing without an IC as long as I'm not lugging the motor.

Accelerating is a PITA cause you cannot get up to speed as quick.
