Ok I'm new to the site so if somebody has had this problem before I'm sure somebody will link me to the old thread. Anyways, I have a 1980 F100 with an 85 mustang 302 and a 600cfm edelbrock 4 barrel carb. When I give it gas the throttle will stick until I tap the gas again. It normally idles at about 600-800 but when it sticks it sits at anywhere from 1500-2000.
Could just be the throttle cable. I have to fill mine up with WD-40 about twice a year, or it'll stick like mad.
First, check all around your carb and make sure no linkage is hitting anything that may make it hang up. I squirt a little shot of WD-40 on both outsides of the carb every once in awhile where the linkage moves.
Then, disconnect the cable at the ball connector, lift it up high, and spray down in the end of the cable housing where the wire cable goes in. Best to have someone in the truck work the gas peddle while you do this, so that the WD-40 get's worked down into the cable. Go into the truck and spray into the cable housing behind the peddle, again working the peddle while you do this.
