For sure get an oasis report from Ford. That'd tell you the history of the trucks. The 6.0 has had a history of problems so you really want to know the condition of each BEFORE you buy. I had a 2005 F350 6.0 for a few months that had a clean oasis report when I bought it. The potential repair bills made me think twice and I ended up trading it for a 2011, even tho it ran fine the short time I had it.

Unless you're needing to haul something your 5.4L flat out won't pull I'd keep the truck you have assuming it's not a fixer upper. The extra $10K plus would fix a lot of repairs and pay for your fuel quite awhile.
