I have lowring beams on the front of my 69 and moved the shackle mounts in rear .It sits lower and I wanted to get new shocks and my question is do I have to get lowering shocks or can I use normal ones ?
You can use normal ones, but you'd have to measure to make sure you have enough room. Or you can go through catalogs to find one with the right extended/colapsed length.
The reason there called lowered shocks is that suppliers figured out that they work for lowered app's. Or aftermarket suppliers came out with shocks that work with there product.
I personally like KYB's and they have an online PDF that list all there shocks.
Anyone have any model numbers on there that they used with same lowering method I did ?
Sorry. I don't have any PNs yet. However, I'm gonna be in the same situation you're in on my 70... drop beams and a shackle flip. I'd rather go with a known brand so I plan to measure the shock length at full droop and full compression and call their tech lines to see what is available. I'll post the PNs when I get to it but that part of the project is a long way down the road... still working on my 65 Stang and 73 4x4.
LMC offers 'drop shocks' for $60 each but they gotta be from Tenneco or some other manufacturer cuz sure as heck LMC doesn't manufacture their own.
Please post the PNs if you happen on them. I mean, I am sure there are alot of us FTE'ers who would really appreciate the information.
