I'm getting supplies ready right now to paint my truck in a few months. I am starting to think of how to get the FORD on the tailgate painted. I am painting my truck red and I want to do the letters in black. How have some of you done this? Just line it out and spray? Has anyone done vinyl letters or some sort of other sticker? Thanks!
I've always used the vinyl letters. Readily available for the 66-77 Bronco's I work on. A better job than I could do painting. Should be available for your truck.
When I did mine, I just taped over the entire raised area, felt by hand and then wrote with a 0.5mm pencil where I wanted to cut. I cut with a razor knife and then sprayed it before the clear coat. Here's a pic:
Just to show how it was done in 1965 here is a never used 65 tailgate that I acquired. When you look closely one can see that the letter was taped off and was painted with a brush as faint brush marks can be seen. It definitely was not spray painted.
By all means it isn't anything fancy, it was just for painting model cars and r/c truck bodies. I think I'm going to go with black lettering, the truck is going to be red and the rims are black.
I will def post some pics when I get it done. Give me about 2 months to get home and get it done! lol I have to get it painted so I can put my lift on.
