38R has Arrived

The new turbo finally made it to MT today, just opened it up, sure is purty! between the storms in the souther US and the pack mules UPS uses in MT it took a full 9 days to make it here from FL, but the wait was worth it!

Will be a busy weekend, finish up my rig, my buddies late 99 just limped in here, appears to have dropped a pad on a rear caliper, will dig into that as well. Also going to put my WW and turbo rebuild in his while we are at it, since the parts are here and my former turbo is not worthy.

Buy stock in Anheiseur Busch, my liver is already screaming uncle from the thought of 3 days with the gang.......

Tom, take a quick look at the bottom two compressor housing bolts, I ended up having to remove the bolts and grind a bit from the ends as they where interfering with the pedestal

Enjoy the whirrrrrr

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up Walt, mine is just sitting with finger tight bolts, just no time with family responsiblities today after an 11 hour shift. Will be Thursday before I really get to play, but couldn't let that brown box sit unopened....

Are these newer 38R's upgraded? Reason I ask is I thought another member on here had an issue with a bolt head hitting the pedastle but in this photo the bolt head is on the opposite side. Maybe it wasn't a 38R. Anyone remember this? He had a bad oil leak with a new pedastle that was a nebpv.

Finally have time to get rocking on this. Interestingly, I have a ton of clearance, maybe they shortened the bolts?

More pics to come through the weekend, the three stooges will be here shortly to tear into everything.

Enjoy! And beware... the whistle is CONSTANT, especially with the 6637. I'm seriously considering getting an AIS, or maybe just steal it off my Excursion!!

You did get a turbo reinstall kit, yes? The bolts are a "one time use" item.

Kit

Yes, I have the install kit. I was going to rebuild my factory turbo originally, but it was hammered when I took it apart, hence the upgrade(but install kit is here, as well as a second one for the late 99). Going to rebuild the late 99 with my rebuild kit this weekend as well. At least we will if we dont run out of beer!
