1965 Mercury Pickup

Here's an unusual one, a 65 Mercury pickup 1/2 ton. The seller buys trucks & parts from out west & for sale in Pittsburgh (45 minutes away from me). Wonder how long Mercury marketed their line of pickups?

Mercury trucks were Canadian. I believe the Mercury line of trucks lasted until 1972.

One of the build ideas I had for my truck was to make it look like a high-end Mercury truck that or Lincoln.

Cool interior, more guages, buckey seats other then Mustang.

It wasn't sold new in CA as Mercury trucks were only sold new in Canada.

This had to do with tariffs between the US/Canada that were abolished mid-year 1967.

This truck isn't even close to original, has had all sorts of modifications.

License Plate says it's from the province of Alberta, Canada....Alberta doesn't use salt on the roads, only sand.
I lived there for close to 6 years...many a cold winter, but a nice place to live. I never knew the Merc's were
Canada only....thanks N.D.

Oh, Oh,,,,, Ok, I'll play.

Name all the NON-1965 parts/modifications you can see:

wheels
door side mirrors
(non-stainless) windshield wiper blades
radio antenna
bucket seats
steering column
dash gauges
power brakes booster with dual reservoir
front bumper
inside door panels
Lastly, I suspect the tailgate may also be non-'65 issue.

---- How did I do? What else do YOU see?

(No, I'm not picking on it - I like the truck!
We're just playing a little of, "Push a pin on the NON-OEM parts")

I'll add brake pedal and engine to your list. Is the engine a "Windsor", maybe from late 70s or early 80s??
Tailgate looks ok to me be I'm far from a Merc expert.

The wheels are genuine Ford, but this style was not offered until 1992.

The steering column is correct, but the steering wheel isn't.

The front bumper (C4TZ-17757-D) is correct, was an option on 1964/66 Standard & Custom Cabs, standard on Rangers. Was also used 1967/77.

The Merc tailgate is correct for this bed. The only difference between it and the one (C4TZ-9940700-A) used on Styleside 1964/66 F100/250 2WD's and 1966 F100 4WD's are the Merc letters.

1967/72 Styleside tailgates (C7TZ-9940700-A) fit these trucks, but hves smaller FORD block letters, which are surrounded by a raised ovate scallop line.

The hood emblem reflects an I-6, If a V8 originally, woulda had a V8 emblem.

The P/S pump was first offered in 1978, but the dizzy/dizzy cap were not used after 1975.

The ignition switch/bezel is an autoparts store replacement. The brake pedal & pad: 1965/68 Galaxie/LTD w/o disc brakes.

The stainless steel w/shield reveal mouldings/anodized grille reflect a Custom Cab, but the tailamps are missing the Custom Cab's bezels.

The suspended gas pedal/pad may be correct, as 1965's assembled from June 1965 (serial number 696,001) have this type (as do '66's). Prior to June, the gas pedal pad bolts to the floor pan.

Okay, I have been watching everyone picking out the things that are not stock, and I have a couple of questions.

1) ND mentioned that the bumper was only offered stock on Rangers in 66. Did they even make a Mercury Ranger or equal?

2) My 3 speed has a small hump, non removable. This truck appears to have a large hump. Was large hump standard in Automatics? Or is this another modification? IE did it come with a I-6 and a 4 speed and the engine and trans are planted, therefore he has the large hump when it was not needed.

Just curiosity really.

Those wheels were actually 91 & prior.
The red stripe trim rings were used in the eighties. I'm thinking 88 or 89 was the last year for the stripes.

Back on topic.....Nice truck.
