For the longest time i have gotten about 9 average MPGs out of my truck...almost never seen over 10...well a few weeks ago my fuel pump went out..so i replaced it and a new filter and just went on with my life...well 4 tanks later i notice that i get alot more miles before i am at a half...(i fill to the top every time and reset odo) i did the math on the last 2 tanks and i got 13.1 and 13.9 with the same habits...anyone care to explain?
Some could be explained by the service station switching from winter to summer blend gasoline... But not that much.
Any chance you cleaned your MAF recently?
I would say that either or both the filter/pump was restricting flow. Or there was something screwy in the wire connections and when you unhooked them to change pumps and repluged made a better connect. This theroy is based on you refuel at a certain postion of the fuel hand instead of running out. If the signal is mixed you might not be refilling at the same level when you refill. This is harder to detect when you do mixed driving. Highway, city, loaded, towing all this good stuff. If you do mostly 1 kind of driving you should in theroy gain or loss fuel by the hand. Filling early or late.

I fill to the top every time when i get a lil below a quarter..usually bout $90 recently...and around 120-130 miles i would be hitting half a tank...i go to the same chevron and get the same 89 fuel and tank would last me 3 days of work....now i hit half around 185ish and a tank lasts my 4 1/2 days....(had to fill up on friday home before i made the trip home last work week)...not complaining by any means...it's just buggin' me to know what did it.
Obviously your truck wasn't getting enough fuel pressure. It was forced to run lean, so fuel economy dropped.
must have been like that for the past 2 years i have owned the truck..also i just remembered it always had a slight erratic miss at idle...kinda like a small pop out the muffler maybe 1 time every 20 secs or so...but only if the engine was not loaded...with the AC on it and the idle faster ...it did not miss. NOW it doesn't miss at all......ever and i can actually hear the new fuel pump...
