F-150 sputtering at idle

What year/model/engine size?
Has the CEL flashed at any time during this sputtering? Have you checked for stored codes?
Has there been anything done to the engine? I.e., modified, stock, tune-up..?
Get back to us with the info above and we can most likely give you some ideas as to what is going on.
Hope this helps.

No mods. Stock '92 F-150 with the EFI straight six. 90k miles. The CEL has never come on. It has a fresh oil change, and plugs/cap/rotor that are about 20k miles old. When I'm driving the truck, I don't notice any effects on how the engine runs or how much power I'm making. Also, when idling, you can't feel the sputter in the truck. It's smooth as silk. Purely ear detected, that's why I'm thinking exhaust leak or bad (stock) muffler.
