Need Rebuld, anyone else?
My buddies '97 Excrustion (with 5.4 I beleive) has found itself a nice solid loud knock. We are goint to attempt to remove and am wondering who elese if anyone has had to remove their engine yet in one of these big rigs. Do these engines have some sort known problems? We are hoping for a rebuild but may just have to find a donner.
I'm a Early F100 kind of guy tring to get an idea of this mission.

Are you SURE it's a '97 Excursion? It's likely an Expedition.
I don't know about the Expedition, but the with the Excursion, I believe it's common practice, at least at the dealership, to hoist the body off the frame to swap the engine. I think it's faster as long as you know what your doing (and have the hoist). It also allows them to beat the flat rate.
