My guess is, he knew this was coming sooner or later and put plans in place in case of his death. In the short term, I wouldn't be surprised by anything. But I do believe his death is significant and we will soon see a power struggle within the upper ranks of Al-Queada that could very well be self destructive to a point, hopefully making them obsolete.
