Build date for mine with the missing homelink is 02/03/03. A ford customer service person told me begining mid February the homelink only is available on EBs.
My '95 Explorer was my first Ford, and I was very, very pleased with it. It lasted 200,000 miles. Because of this, I really wanted another Ford, which I did get. But these "little" things are going to require serious consideration when it's time to replace the Expedition.
I have a new xlt premium and I do have the homelink, however, it is not compatible with my new garage door opener--go figure. I saw that build quality was discussed here. The ride is dramatically improved, but interior quality is NOT the same as it was on previous models and having owned a former xlt and EB models, I feel qualified to say this
My sister in-law purchased a EB lower grill for her Expedition. The dealership said that they could NOT install it for her, as it is intended ONLY for the EB. Also, it was pre-painted the EB gold color. She will have to paint it a flat black or grey.
I will wait and see how her experience goes before dropping the$125 on mine. And yes, I did say $125!
I did it on mine. Bought the EB lower grille from Ford for $40, then took it to the body shop and had it sprayed to match my existing grille for $35. It just slips right in place, there are holes in the grille insert and the bumper that line up that I just put zip-ties through. Looks a whole lot better!
Here are before & after pics of the Carriage Works grills on my '03 Expy. Installation was easy & took me about 3 hours. FYI you must cut all mounting tabs off the chrome bezzel so it would be difficult to go back to stock.

I saw in the '04 Expedition brochure today that the XLT Sport comes with a lower grill (or, at least the picture showed it). Think it will fit in our '03s?
