as I am working thru bring the 56 BW up to driveable and (my standards), the fronts of the running boards seemed low, bent down.. unbolted, neither running board touches the front arms.
(the rear fenders are widened, so the RB fit into the fender slot)
I removed them to get under the cab for other things, but notice
1. 3 of the brackets are curved
2. the bracket near the battery access panel is squared, like on my other older trucks.
they all look riveted on.. which is weird, cause on my other trucks they were bolted from the inside of the frame.
I see Bjorns 56 has the curved brackets on the drivers side too.. his chassis
There is a difference in the 53-55 mounting brackets in that those years had the under-cab gas tank and the battery tray was more square. The mounts on the driver's side of the 53-55 trucks also had T-shaped slots where the gas tank straps mounted. The 56 moved the tank to the inside of the cab and thus did not need the tank mounts on the driver's side and the passenger side front mount varied a bit due to the long, narrow battery that came stock in this year truck. As for rivets vs bolts, I have seen them mounted both ways. If you are not running an under-cab gas tank then either setup should work since the running boards themselves are all the same.

ok, seems crazy not to have all the mounts be the same.
Sam,
I have a 53 and (2) 56's. The 53 has all 4 the same, and the both 56's have the ( 3 the same and one different) combo. I believe that is the way they came from the factory, based on all the ones I have seen. Regardless of their logic, my opinion is they left the one under the battery box the same in 56 to keep from a redesign.
