my son has a 1992 Full size bronco 4x4with a 5.8 V8, that seams to be stuck in 1st gear. this came about after he changed the neutral safety switch and just assumed he didnt need to read the instructions so it wasnt in Neutral like it was supposed to be and he didnt change the electrical cannon plug as directed, ? I removed it and changed everything out as per the instructions but now the shift lever on the tranny wont shift through all detents? any trouble shooting tips would great. thanks.
Not sure what he did before i got involved...
You will need to find out if its the shift arm on the transmission is what is actually not allowing the full range of motion. The linkage up through the column can work loose and cause bind or even keep the selector from actually engaging all of the gears.
greystreak92,
I couldnt stand it and pulled the pan to investigate. After some looking I found the parking pawl roller that rides the detents was broken off and wedged against the arm so it wouldnt move. Gotta find a replacement part now. Any ideas?
Yikes. Ok. There are places you can buy just the internal components for transmissions. This was the first place I found just using "E4OD Parts" into Google. Otherwise you would probably be stuck dealing with salvage yards or "stealerships".
