I took my Ex in yesterday for an alignment as I just purchased a new set of tires and wanted to make sure that all was well.... Well, I picked it up and they told me that I need a caster sleeve? A. I've never heard of such a thing.. and B. Is said sleeve just a quick fix for a bigger problem? I don't want to band aid anything. Plus... while changing my oil last night I noticed that my bump stops are pretty much toast... My wallet already feels lighter
I have heard of caster shims. Excursion tracks best with proper caster angles. Helps to minimize wander. Specs are broad, so I would ask them for a read-out before agreeing to pay for anything.
New bumpers can be had at ford dealer. Best fix is a new set of springs or take-offs from F-250 (V code for front, B code for rear). This gives extra suspension travel that you need. Your bumpers are shot because they have become routine part of suspension.
Ya, I just called the Ford dealer to get a quote on replacing the front and rear leafs and they want $800+ for the fronts and $1,100 for the rears. I really need to find a good lift shop here in town(Fresno) for some take-offs... I don't want to fork out $2k for stock replacements only to have them wear out in 5-8years.
There are certain parts that I'm willing to try and replace/repair myself but with brakes & suspension I tend to leave it up to the pros... I tote around my boys and I'd hate to be the reason the truck failed.
