could i get the specs on a 93 4.0. its in my 93 explorer. whats the compression ratio and whatnot? can obd II from a second gen explorer be adapted to mine? what are the weak and strong points of the motor? im plannin a rebuild, with a high torque cam, and addin a 35 or 40mm turbo to put no more than 20lbs of boost on the motor. what weak points should i address (other than the heads of course)? basically, im wantin to take a chapter from diesel power buildin, and combine it with the gasser book, and make a 4.0 explorer to stomp all the new cameros runnin around. lol.
lol. in reference to the cameros, i know i could never take on a V8, but most of the ones around here are body packaged V6s. those are the ones im huntin.
and thank you very much for the info. i think you pointed me right to the stuff i was lookin for.
V6 Camaro with a 6er is 0-60 in 5.9, 1/4 in 14.5 @ 99 mph. 304 horse.
4.0 SOHC Mustang, just over 200 horse but a lot lighter, 0-60 6.5 and the 1/4 15.5 @ 93, or about a fast as a stock 1967 390 Mustang. (Suspension and tires, you know)
So you have a tall mountain to climb. But you can still improve the performance and enjoy the Exploder for what it is....
ill keep that in mind. my goal is 350 horses. with the performance parts you pointed me to, a few tricks stolen from the V8 and diesel worlds, i dont see why id have any too much trouble reachin it.
itll be an exploder. for its explosive power! lol. another user on here said his 4.0 in his ranger is makin bout 325 hp at the rear wheels, and iirc, hes only got an MSD ignition, exhaust and intake, and a chip.
