I have a 2004 6.0. I purchased a egr delete kit.I have mechaniced for a long time but am not familiar with my ford yet.Should have all the tools if no special ones are needed. How hard is it to install this delete kit.And what should I look for to start. I don't have intake gaskets yet. What all should I need unexpectedly engine is clean and in great condition and has been serviced well.100,000 miles but no problems just trying to be precautious and hope for better performance. have tuner and tow a fifthwheel. or should I just put a egr block and wait for trouble.Should I replace the oil cooler, should I replace the intercooler hoses ,should I do what. While I 'am in!!!!!Help. I also see a banjo bolt with no check valve in it for the fuel rail will this help or cause a problem?.

If you would go further down in the forum listings, you will find the diesel forums and if you ask these good questions in the 6 liter forum, I'm sure you will get the answers.

As far as an egr delete, you don't need it. We have found out (recently) that without the egr system in place (or at least the valve), the fan will not operate properly. The egr cooler is not what you hear about, "a ticking time bomb". They can be very reliable. What I recomend is keeping the EGR cooler in place, and if, yes if not when, the egr cooler fails replace it with a bullet proff diesel one. They have very little to no failures.
If you do what to go ahead and do the delete. Make sure you leave the valve in place, and pluged in. You won't need intake gaskets as they are reuseable. You should go ahead and change the oil cooler while your in there as well.
You say your running a tunner whitch one are you running? There are some that are known to cause problems with the 6.0, and there are some that have a very good track record.
Either way you go the best thing to do at this point is get gauges, if you don't already have them. You will want to keep an eye on EOT, ECT, Tranny Temp, and Fuel pressure at a minimum.
my 04 had the first egr cooler pop at 35k and the second at 55k.. i was out of warranty so i had the dealer delete mine but still have the egr valve in place and hooked up.. my fan works as it should ...my truck runs perfectly without the egr cooler.. i am going to go ahead and have the heads studded with new gaskets because i found a ford tech that will do it on the side so it will not cost me too much..
the first one was in 2006 and they did not, then in 09 i had noticed that my fan was coming on a lot and everyone on here was talking about the oil cooler problem so i took it in and they said the oil cooler was bad and they replaced it but said the egr cooler tested fine.. then the egr cooler popped again in 2010 , in only 20k miles and of course it was out of warrranty then.. so had the oil cooler replaced and the egr cooler deleted..
