Correct Running Temp?

I have a 400 with stock heads for now, probably Aussies in a month or so.

I have an aftermarket temp gauge hooked up but I don't even know what temperature is OK!

What temp will stuff really start to fail at? What is "overheated" maybe?

What is a good, average/normal, and high acceptable running temp for this engine?

Thanks for any info, AleX

I wish I knew for sure. Since Ford put 192 degree thermostats in these engines from the factory, I would think 200-210 degrees would not be bad on the engine. I understand the hotter we can run a motor without damaging anything would be idea because we would burn the fuel a lot better and have less sludge build-up. My engine has a high volume water pump and a 192 degree thermostat and runs around 160 degrees. I have to block off part of the radiator in winter to get it warmer.
