I want to wire in added driving lights on a 2011 F350 crewcab so they work off the high beam circuit via the #1 upfitter switch in case I want to shut these lights off. Can anyone advise how I can do this?
Where woud I connect into the high beam circuit?
Maybe not quite that easy. The factory upfitters take their supply power from the truck accessory power, not from a source that you provide. You would have to cut the supply to a single switch and provide your own.
Easiest way to do what you want that I can think of would be to take the power from the high beam to power the coil of a relay. Then wire the upfitter output through the normally open contacts of that relay out to the driving lights. Then when you turn your high beams ON, the relay will energize, but the upfitter will have to be ON also to power the driving lights. Not such a great idea IMO, since you won't be able to use your driving lights unless you are also using your high beams.
It seems more straighforward to just power the driving lights with an upfitter and turn them ON-OFF with the flick of a switch, without regard to the high beams.
Otherwise, to do what you want elegantly, will require some relays and diodes. ON or OFF with driving lights, plus ON or OFF with an upfitter, is not so easy.
I actually disconnected my daytime driving lights, since they look stupid in California.
Originally the circuit goes via big resistor mounted under the hood, so they are slightly dimmer than turned on by the light switch.
