Parking Brake Issue - 03 FOrd Excursion

The other day, I applied my parking brake in my 2003 Ford Excursion. Upon pressing in the pedal, I heard a loud snap near the pedal. Initially the pedal was stuck in engaged and the handle would not release it, though if I pull out the pedal when applying the release handle I can get it to release. However, the pedal is not functioning. When released, the pedal merely falls back into an engaged position - it won't stay in position (limp for lack of a better word). The parking brake itself is not engage at the wheels, though the "brake" on the instrument panel is and I am getting that annoying dinging sound that won't go away until the pedal is fixed. Thoughts on how to fix or even bypass since I don't need the parking brake.

Sounds like your e-brake cable has broke/disconnected from the pedal.

Look underneath and make sure the cable isn't hanging down where it
can snag on something and really ruin your day.

Sorry, nothing more I can add.
