In an earlier career I used to sell computer equipment and we would occassional have to call on the auto manaufacture test tracts in Arizona. One such visit to the Nissan track and I asked them what they were working on. They explained that the brake caliper used two bolts to fasten it. They wanted to redesign that to use one bolt. At $1.00 per bolt x 2 disk calipers per front end they would save $2.00 per car x how ever many cars they sold. So their model year change used different parts.
Does it matter to you if your calipers have two or one bolts, if they have the same strength? Manufactures will constantly be looking for ways to reduce manufacturing cost and still offer as good of a product.
I strongly suggest a lot of those part changes will not be noticeable to us.
I really love my 2011. That said, I would love it even more if they would have let me be the floor supervisor in the Kentucky plant for just one day (February 24th)...I would have "Limited Edition" lots of things.
The one main option I would really like to see (other than NO fake burlwood!) would be the RFID key system. If the 2012's have that, then I will kick myself for not waiting but other than that there is not a whole heck of a lot of "parts" that could tickle me pinker.
Besides, 2011 is a cooler number than 2012...who wants a truck made the same year the world is supposed to end?
Any skuddlebutt on the 2012's yet? I have searched around and havnt heard anything as of late...
Absolutely nothing! I have even gone to dealers, threatening to buy one, either a 2011 or 2012, and all they say is we don't have that info yet. That's hard to believe. There have been some posts indicating 460 new part numbers, but with no additional information. If anybody out there has some info, please share.
I'm anxiously awaiting the info as well. Given that Job 1 is scheduled for 7/25, I figure at worst the order guide will be out 6-8 weeks prior. I don't think they're holding it back to play the one-up game with GM since GM has had their guides out since mid April (and there are almost no changes to the GM trucks except for a color change, new NAV radio and a few option package tweaks).
I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who is chomping at the bitt to get this info... I'd like to see it soon... my b-day is next week... I think it would be fun/cool to order my new truck on my b-day... LOL
