Hi
I got a 1986 F-150 5.0 EFI. I have a trailer with a four prong so I wired the 4 prong connector onto my Ford. I connected White* (ground) to ground (of course). I connected the Brown* (Tailgate) to a brown wire that gets power when ever you turn the headlights on. The Green* (Right Turn) I connected to the right turn signal. And the Yellow* (Left) I connected to the left turn signal.
Now I connected the trailer. I flip the signals, and they blink on the trailer . I hit the brakes, they brakes light up . I turn the headlights on, the light on the trailer turn on . I hit the brakes while the head lights on turned on, and they turn OFF on the trailer . WHY!!!! WHY!!!! WHY!!!! I don't know why!. Anyone have any idea why?
Thanks, It helped a little. From what i read there, the brake lights on the truck are robbing the power from the trailer ones?. And yes the lights do come back on when I get off the brakes. Also Instead of grounding the trailers ground to an actual ground, I ran a really long cable from the negative of the battery to the ground on the trailer. Would that affect it, (i don't see how it would)
You might want to change the name of this post so it tells people that it has to do with the lights and not trailer brakes. Two different things and you might get more of a response if they knew it was just lights and not trailer brakes.
