Alright, so I just did a water pump, thermostat, hoses, serpentine belt, and Radiator on my 89 F150, all of witch were original. Rad's been leaking for well over 3 months, and water pump blew saturday night as I was turning on my street, pissed everything out, and had tons of play on the shaft.
Just a quick question, I decided since i'm doing all that, that I may as well put a new T-stat while i'm there. So I got my T-stat, it's a "Motorad" and it's a 195*
The one I pulled out was the original Ford 192*
Now heres the question, being some type of aftermarket brand, will it last or give me problems? It's the same size, but has some very noticeable differences compared to the factory one.
I know for sure, NEVER to use anything BUT International/Ford Thermostats in the 6.9/7.3 Diesels. But i've never heard anything like that for the gassers.
I am keeping the original one as a spare, after all, it is still good.
I flushed everything out, engine, heater core and new rad (new but used from my parts truck).
i would not worry too much about it John. just keep an eye on the temp for a few days to make sure it don't stick and overheat on ya. i have found with t-stats that they either work, or don't rite off the bat.
