Modding a SD
The SD's have a 3" DP to a 3.5" exhaust, easiest to go with a full 4" exhaust.
If it's an e99, you'll have a 15* HPOP, whereas the 99.5 and later have a 17*, which if it's a strong pump, probably no need to upgrade it. I bought a stock 17* from a junkyard and with stage 2 injectors and some great tunes, I could still maintain 2800+ psi wide open.
The auto transmissions are still a weak spot on the SD's, but with a valve body or shift kit, some good tunes to make it shift right, it'll last quite a while.
The most common, cheapest and easiest intake for these trucks is the 6637.
Riffraff Diesel: RDP 6637 Filter Kit
Even give Clay a call (owner/operator of Riffraff), he's great to visit with, has alot of knowledge and can get you most anything you'll need for your truck, and he's a pretty nice guy to boot!
It's funny you mention split shot injectors, most guys will go back to single shots when upgrading injectors. They take less oil, fuel and gain better fuel mileage, or maintain the same with increase in power.
