i am in the middle of swaping a 400m into my 1979 ford f250 4x4 the motor will not to suck up to the transmision. what gives all the bellhousing bolts are started the torque bolts are in the holes in the flywheel.but there is a 1/4 to 1/2 gap at the bottom of the transmission and the block, and the motor will not turn over by hand if the bottom bellhousing bolts are tight what gives.
the old motor was a 360,so i changed the engine towers to 351/400 out of a 79 f250,i have not changed the rubber engine mounts yet (the 400 was out of a 1979 f250 2wd) The C6 is out of a 1979 4x4 and is the correct bellhousing
Sounds like the torque convertor isn't in all the way. Hopefully you didn't already break the pump. Pull the motor back out and spin the convertor while pushing in. It should "clunk" into place a few times before it's in all the way.
ditto on the torque converter. that thing should set back in there a ways. as I recall it has about 3 notches that it will slip back as you turn and push.
Ummm, yeah. Shine a flashlight in there and see if there's any pieces that look broken. Then like these other guys said, push the converter in while spinning it. It should pop in in three different steps. When it's seated, the face of the converter should be about 1 1/2" inside the bellhousing. Good luck!
