help with hub removal
OK, here's where I'm at. replacing inner/outer bearing seals and races, rotors, brake calipers, and pads.
1. have it on 2 6 ton jack stands- it's stable
2. have caliper off
3. removed cap on hub- it only had two torx head screws holding it on (same for otherside I haven't worked on yet- but there's several more screw holes. I imagine I'll be needing to get some torx head screws so all my screw openings have screws in them? No?
4. removed cap and spring
5. removed loose gear
6. removed flat split ring that lays in the grove on the inside of the hub and holds the next gear (is this the correct term). That gear then slid out. on the backside of this gear is another flat split ring retainer (that the correct term for it??) with a gold colored cover. Does that have to come off? are there bearings inside this "gear".
7. I have the spindle nut bearing for the spindle nut I cannot yet get at inside the hub which is now empty to that point except for the center core "gear"spindle. It's the inner stem so to speak that those two "gears" that came off rotated around. Do I need another special socket for this one?
That's all for now please feel free to add what I've missed or give guidance to what you know will be a challange ahead of me and I'll ask my next questions as they come up- my brother who understands this a might bit better than myself and was all for helping seems to be MIA (from the project) so I'm on my own. Thanks folks, Keystonepaul
